Things you might see on the street (another one)

Okay, I don't like to do two of these in a row, and I have no idea if these bikes had anything to do with this car, but seeing them all together like this was just too awesome to resist...

Things you might see on the street

Remember a couple of posts ago when I said Parisians are all about being tasteful, subtle and elegant?  Ummmm, yeah...never mind...

"Tails" of romance from the City of Love

Ladies and gentlemen, Miss K is proud to present the Fifth-Floor Feline Players production of: Cat on a Cold Brick Window-Ledge, starring Furry Man-Whore and Neighbour Kitty.

She comes and waits forlornly at the window, hoping to be invited in.

He sees her - it's love at first sight.  But wait, he also loves Miss K!  What's a furry man-whore to do?

He decides to shun Miss K and put the moves on this new gal, but now she's playing hard-to-get.

He gives up, which is probably a good thing, because it turns out...

...that she's actually a vampire kitty!  Aieeeeeeee!!!!!!

Thank you, and good night!  You've been a great audience! Tip your waitress!

(Wow, it's amazing what I'll come up with to amuse myself on a rainy night in February...)

Embrace the sparkle, people

Parisians are all about being subtle, tasteful and elegant.  They look disdainfully at the vulgar foreigners who could never possibly rise to their level of sophistication.   They don't give in to things that are fun and bright and sparkly on a daily basis, but maybe they should, because I've just realized that all that self-restraint just completely cracks  at Christmas.  I was just trawling back through some of my photos and I present you with the evidence...

Pretty, yes.  Subtle, no.

Only the French would have Xmas lights that look like chandeliers.

Not at all vulgar or over the top - noooo, not at all...

I don't get the snowy palm trees.  I like 'em, I just don't get 'em.

Think ya got enough lights here, buddy? And wtf with the palm trees??

Really not sure that the French quite grasp the concept of reindeer...

Things you might see on the street

This is a wine shop.  This is a wine shop having a sale.  This is a wine shop having a sale, with a window display that involves...laundry.  Yep, every time I think I've seen the pinnacle of Paris craziness, I see something new.  Laundry in a wine shop window - why?  Whyyyyy???

Totally crap outfit of the week

You know, Miss K is not a total killjoy when it comes to fashion - if people want to wear novelty sweaters, they should absolutely feel free to do such a thing.  By which I mean: at Christmas,  in the privacy of your own home where you will be seen only by friends and family who will love you regardless, and where you can blame over-indulgence in excessive amounts of alcohol as an excuse for wearing such a garment.  But in public?  In broad daylight??  In Paris???  Madame, even the snowmen (yes, in the plural - there are four on this sweater) are embarrassed...

Tiny Dancer and the furry man-whore

For those of you who are long-time readers of this blog, you may remember my post from last year on the subject of Valentine's Day.  If not, or if you are new here, I am attaching the link: Paris - City of Love. Really?

So, have things improved for Miss K in the romance department?  Well, let me tell you how I spent Valentine's Day this year.  First, I went for dinner with Tiny Dancer - and you know, she's more delightful than a box of puppies and all that, but she's not a hot man.  Nonetheless, we had a lovely evening - I had been detoxing for nine days and wasn't planning to drink, but Tiny Dancer made the excellent argument that a single girl can't possibly be expected to get through V-Day without the benefit of alcohol, and that surely there is some kind of amnesty granted for such an occasion.  Doesn't that make sense to everyone?  Yes, I thought so too.  So we had pre-dinner aperos, a bottle of wine at dinner, champagne with dessert, and a post-dinner nightcap.  Hee!

And then I went stumbling home to my furry little feline man-whore.   Of course, he doesn't just love me, he'll basically fling himself at anyone who walks into the apartment (hence his reputation as a furry man-whore), but it's still nice to come home to.  And this is the snuggliest cat in the world - you can pick him up any old time and he looooves it.  Most cats would claw your face off if you tried that, and granted, he is a cat and therefore unpredictable (which probably means he'll claw my face off about ten seconds after I write this), but he's still adorable.

Soooo, was this year's Valentine's Day an improvement over last year?  Well, admittedly there were still no hot men romancing me, but a fabulous girly dinner with the awesome Tiny Dancer and then having a furry little feline man-whore snuggle up to me in bed?  Hell yeah - definite improvement!

Men in trees

As I wander around Paris, I have seen some odd things but I never would have expected to encounter men dangling from trees and using chainsaws (not to mention the great big woodchipper that was whirring away down below on the street).  I guess it's a normal way to keep the trees under control, but for some reason, it seemed like a very odd thing to see on the elegant streets of Paris...

(Extremely creepy) things you might see in the park

I was walking through the Parc Floral last Friday, and there were people making these rather hideous items out of branches and leaves and whatnot.  I have no idea why, and I didn't ask - are you kidding?  These things are going to give me nightmares for weeks, so I most certainly wasn't about to speak to the freaky sociopaths who were making them.  Ugh.  Well... enjoy!!!

Totally crap outfit of the week

Okay - is it just me or does this combo of the red hat and the green jacket remind anyone else of a great big martini olive?  Mmmm - martinis...  Well, honestly - if I had to go and have a cocktail after seeing this outfit (and I'm not saying any such thing, of course), who could blame me??

Luck of the Irish - Part 3

Gentle readers (assuming I still actually have any readers after such a long absence?), I am very happy to report to you that I am not, in fact, writing to you from a cardboard box under the Pont Neuf.  It was a pretty close call, but I managed to find a new home at the very last minute - whew!!!  You may remember that I had two rather fabulous pieces of luck last year ( Luck of the Irish and Luck of the Irish - Part 2)?  Well, this whole experience of looking for a new place to live here was so difficult and miserable and depressing that I really thought my good fortune had completely deserted me, but apparently not - I went to a dinner one night and had the right conversation with the right person at the right moment and now I'm living in a fabulous sub-let in the Marais (one of my favourite areas in Paris) for the next few months.  There's a balcony and a walk-in closet and an adorable kittycat, so I couldn't be happier.  The only real drawback is that it's a fifth-floor walk-up, but I'm so ridiculously thrilled to be here, I couldn't care less about that.

So thank you for being patient and bearing with my temporary crisis.  I'm now all moved in and mostly unpacked, so I can finally get my life (and my poor neglected blog) back to normal.  Let the eating and drinking and socializing (and snarky writing) re-commence...
